Individual Skeletal Measurements: Upper Body

Hand Length:

  1. Place either of your child's hands palm down on a piece of lined paper.
  2. Make one mark at the tip of his longest finger and a second mark down at the point where his wrist meets the base of his thumb.
  3. Measure the distance between the two marks. Place this figure in the space provided on Worksheet A.

Arm Length:

  1. . Have your child stand straight with one of his arms fully extended outward in front of him.
  2. With a tapemeasure or yardstick, measure the length of his arm from the top pointy part of his shoulder bone to the tip of his longest finger.
  3. Record this measurement in the space provided on Worksheet A.

Shoulder Width:

  1. . Have your child sit straight up in a chair
  2. Stretch a tape measure across his chest, below his neck and measure the distance from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other.
  3. Record the measurement in the space provided on Worksheet A.
